Heading to San Diego area from July 31-August 26th and am going to be staying in Oceanside at the Residence Inn.

Wondering if anyone is familiar with the area and can offer tips on things to do, places to eat, etc.

LINK
Open the page to the full site for the whole SD region. There's literally too much to do out there to go on suggestions. I lived in El Cajon, Poway, Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Marcos and Escondido. Obviously the weather is lovely along the coast and there's something different to do morning, noon and evening for the duration of your stay. Gotta drive a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway 101! Some of the best eats and drinks are on the coastline!

Del Mar Racing season is open. I highly recommend spending an afternoon betting horses and sipping some local IPA's.

No prob. If you need a few minutes to unwind, meditate, pray, think, relax or take in a great view, the sunset on the Pacific Ocean from one of the beach rock jetties is not a bad choice. I appreciate it more in north county.

That link was depressing. The weather info at the top of page at 79 degrees made me question my sanity of living in the deep south. Add to it all the things to do and I appear even more insane.

Any particular spots that are great for views? I'm an avid runner and would love to catch some in the morning.

But there is a severe trade-off if you're gun lover or hardcore outdoorsmen. For starters, a La equivalent fishing license in Cali is nearly $60.

You should be able to get a decent 5k in between oceanside harbor and pier area with direct view of the shoreline most of the way. But you want to check out the pier itself. Oceanside, Mission and Pacific beaches have a route with nice views. There are a couple of spots in the Mid County areas but I'm not too familiar. There are jetties at every beach in SD but my spots were the ones in Oceanside since I was statione on Camp Pendleton. I lived on the base so I would set right outside of my garage and drink beer with the neighbors while watching the sunset. It was pretty surreal when I first realized what I was actually doing. Seen it too many times on tv.
I tried. like I said, there's too much. I just realized I told you what I did and I'm setting here regretting not doing some of the other things while I was there.

Note. Since you're up north. Southbound traffic is heavy in the am and easier in the evening reverse for northbound.
