What about the texas longhorns? This will be the first year that the roster, though young, will be stacked with strong recruits. I could see them be a surprise team.

And laugh all you want, but Vanderbilt's defense could provide the whole CFB world a magical and miraculous story.

There's a whole thread dedicated to unpopular sports takes, this would fit nicely into.

I guess you could add Houston into the equation too if they get by Oklahoma in the first game.

Louisville.

Vanderbilt won't go undefeated in conference play and they won't beat the SECW champ, so they're out imo.

They were going to be my choice. It will be interesting to see how they navigate the trip to Autzen and a home game vs Stanford in back-to-back weeks. The outcomes of those two games could give them momentum for a run or deflate them for the rest of the season.

Christ, aggy is a disaster after winning no fewer than 8 games since sumlin started, but Texas wins 7 and then 5 games and they are a darkhorse playoff contender?

From each power conference:

ACC- Louisville
Big 12- Oklahoma State
Big Ten- Michigan State (yes they made it last year but are expected to take a step back)
Pac 12- USC (although they'll have to be perfect after losing to Alabama)
SEC- Georgia (OP said dark horses, I don't expect this)
Group of 5- Boise State (could easily run the table in dominant fashion if they beat Washington State early)

Nebraska - If the Huskers knock off Oregon there is a good chance they'll be 8-0 going into consecutive road games at Wisconsin and Ohio State. They win those, Huskers will definitely be in the hunt. Schedule is pretty favorable this year.
