Just caught an episode and really peaked my interest but kind of confused. Can someone give me some insight that's not too spoilery and whether or not it's worth the watch.

It says dreadful in the title. That should tell you all you need to know

I enjoy it. FWIW it's called Penny Dreadful because it's characters are drawn from popular literature in the UK in the 19th century that were called "Penny Dreadfuls". They covered darker content like vampires, werewolves, witches, murder, etc. You find all of that in the show.
That said, it's criminal that Eva Green hasn't been consistently nominated for her acting in this show. It's well written and well acted.
If you have issues with shows portraying the occult or gay/lesbian content then tread lightly.

What's up with the whole Idian deal and old west?

It's part of one of the main character's story arc/journey. If you don't want spoilers you probably don't need to know anything more than that.

Does Netflix or Hulu carry it?

It's good overall. Just be warned some episodes have some fairly graphic guy on guy action.

Great writing and acting. If you're a fan of classic horror characters, you will definitely enjoy it. The Wolf Man, Dr, Frankenstein, Dracula, Dorian Gray, Frankenstein's monster, Dr. Jekyll, etc. are all in it, not to mention witches, demons, and homicidal prostitutes.
