Netflix Long Term

What are yall thoughts on Netflix sustainability long term? It seems like it has become a part of most people's lives and normal expenses. With more and more people cutting cable, I could see it lasting if they can keep up their quality of shows. Amazon prime could present a great deal of competition if they keep increasing their shows but I expect Amazon to start raising prices.

netflix is awesome, i just dont understand why apple or google cant step into the streaming in the long run if they wanted to.

I agree with this also. I think it's also possible that one of them would buy Netflix.

Because they missed their shot and jumped in too late. Apple tried getting into music streaming, something that made even more sense given the origins of their recent success and failed miserably. Google + Amazon both ahven't made a dent in the music streaming market despite free streaming for Amazon
When netflix just streamed old shows/movies, maybe someone could jump in but now with quality original contennt, Apple/Google/Amazon would have to become a movie/tv studio/distributor to compete

Possibly but Netflix market cap right now is $50bil. Does Apple/Google want to put up 10% of their company to enter a market they know little about?
Maybe Apple would do it as a tax maneuver. I imagine purchasing it in the US could allow them to bring more $ back from Ireland without recording them as taxable profits

This is my biggest fear for spotify/netflix etc. People don't seem to realize that Prime music is free and has a large library. Their prime video collection isn't giant but has a ton of great listings + cheap rental of new movies.
I'm so completely sold on Amazon as a company. Really thinking about putting about $10k on Amazon. Waiting for quarter earnings as I expect them to do their normal "loss" and stock drop

Prime music is free...but the library is crap compared to Spotify.
As for Netflix I don't see them going away any time soon. Their original content is blowing everyone else out of the water. They haven't even had a "must watch" show like Game of Thrones yet. That is just a matter of time.

I bought 100 shares today for IRA, just regret not doing it a few days ago like I wanted to. Some analysts have it at 200 within the year

Amazon is never going to surpass Netflix as long as Amazon has such horrible navigation. The Prime Video section of their website is not user-friendly at all and I often give up searching for stuff to watch.

Bingo.
Speaking from a consumer point of view, I don't even bother with Amazon's video streaming solely because their interface is absolute garbage and very difficult to use. How Amazon hasn't figured this out and remedied it yet is beyond me.
The setup that Netflix has is perfect.

I'm about to cancel my netflix account. I might want to watch someone twice a month, and I can never find anything I like.

They seem focus on streaming devices. Works flawlessly on my ROKU + Fire TV. Never tried computer version

I'm not sure what they are trying to do with it. Clealry has potential but it's like they are just keeping it around for future plans.
Be interesting to see if they break Amazon Prime subscription into something more modular. Like $5/music or prime video to be able to compete with netflix or spotify
Doubt that ever happens though as it is philosophically opposed to their business model of an "Everything store"

Up $3.80 in premarket. Make money!

I kicked myself for not buying it after Reed Hastings made a faux pas concerning pricing a few years ago and the stock got down into the 60's, I believe it went on a tear a few months after that and then split.
I've had it on a watch list ever since. When it showed as oversold in the high 80's about a month ago, I jumped in pretty heavy. And the past couple of weeks have been nice. I've sold calls on it once without getting exercised out. And I almost sold some 100 calls this week, before it started popping. It's in overbought territory now, but it could stay there for awhile. The volume and money flow still look good. I'll set some trailing stops and see where it goes from here.
Longer term, I don't really have an opinion. This position is just a trade for me.. But I do think the concept is what the future is going to look like for TV.
