Slate (I think) did an article when this first broke. There will be very few Americans involved due to some specific aspects of US-Panama relations. Americans trying to dodge taxes are better off using the Cayman Islands.

I think you'd be surprised how different your perception is from the reality of non-profit and philanthropic waste, misuse, and corruption. That's not to say that they're all bad, it's just not the candy canes and lollipops that a lot of people think it is.
The thing is that the Panama papers expose seedy, albeit legal, business practices. The existence of someone's or an entity's name in the list can be an indicator of corruption in both the public and private spheres.
