Guys, I need a new headset for my PS4

I had the old PS3/PS4 Sony ones. I'm not sure if they were surround sound or not. I think they were "stereo". I remember having a a Turtle Beach headset in the MW2 days that depantsed the Sony ones as far as subtle sounds I'd hear in the ambient.
The new Sony Gold headset says it's 7.1 virtual surround...what does that even mean? Can I get some good recs here? Thanks...not looking to break the bank, either.

I got the sony silver headset for $40 awhile back. I like it, it's comfortable, and looks nice.

Bought the Sony Pulse headset about 3-4 years ago and it still works fine. I love it
