Just knocked out the last CFP course and gearing up for the November exam.

Kaplan offers two variations of an exam prep course (one is $800, the other is like $400), but I don't beleive they are reimbursable by my firm.

I've got a pretty good handle on things, but I definitely don't want to take this exam twice. What did you do to prepare? Any free preparation methods that you know of?

I took Ken Zahn and it was well worth it...teaches you how to take and pass the exam. Narrows down the info to what's tested. Look into that and talk to your manager to see if they will help with the cost. Prep courses, I feel, are a must.

I took and passed it my first try...didn't want to have to take again either

Yeah I've heard a lot about Zahn. Unfortunately his class starts tomorrow in Atlanta.

I'm doing an alternative through Kier in Atlanta in 3 weeks. Hopefully it's enough. Thanks for the response.

a one week prep class is worth it. Houston should have one. they teach you mnemonics and short cuts that you couldn't come up with on your own. didn't have computer study banks back then though. Still, the prep classes cut to the chase.

I used Dalton and their live prep course. I found it well worth it. The prep was a good bit more difficult than the exam itself. What I worried about using free resources was how dated some of the material is. I don't know how Dalton does it but their information and material was very relevant and very close to the exact exam questions.
