I'm just curious why you need the amp. Usually a wall tap can be split two ways with no problem, and it's always better not to insert an unnecessary amp.

I agree - that's why I said he has it connected correctly. It's not a good idea to amplify the signal going to the modem. The signal is so low at the wall outlet that all he's doing is amplifying noise. But if it works it works.
