Set in a divided Germany in 1983, during a peak period for Cold War tensions between East and West. Martin Rauch, a wide-eyed 24-year-old East German soldier plucked from obscurity, goes undercover as a West German soldier for the East Germany Secret Service.

I just watched the first show in the series , and this excellent, intelligent, and witty. The first episode is a wonderful start to a series that looks very promising. It takes us back to a time before the fall of the Berlin Wall, when the threat of nuclear war between the two hostile superpowers of the U.S.S.R. and the United States, was entirely real. The visuals of Deutschland 83 are superb, and the show creates a sense of place and time that accompanies the storyline beautifully. The pilot & episode two can be found on Sundance.tv

The guys on Grantland are drooling over this show.

Besides Mr.Robot, it's the best series I've seen so far this summer.

How's it different than The Americans? I can only commit to one "the bad guy's are behind enemy lines, Cold War spy" premise at a time.

He's a soldier in E.Germany and is recruited to spy on the W.German's. If he completes his task. His mother will be moved to the top of the donor list. She has diabetes.

Right but it's only different in details, not in premise. It is a decent show after watching the pilot. Does it get better?
As an FYI, the first 2 episodes are available On Demand on UVerse.

The premise isn't different at all. Cold War/Spy drama.
So far I like this series. Episode 3 was the most visually pleasing episode.
