Last night I had my girlfriend over to my apartment compex and she double parked behind me and my roomate's vehicles. Wasn't blocking anybody in beside us, nobody called about the car, etc. Apparently you need a visitor pass to do that. Regardless I walked up on the tow truck operator in the act of putting a boot on her car about to tow it and he made me pay a $140 "towing fee" to keep him from taking the car. I know if its hooked up to the truck then they can make you pay a fee but can he charge that much to take the boot off? It took him 10 seconds.

TL;DR Towing companies are scum.

Has Riverside Towing expanded to Lafayette?

He can "charge you" whatever you're willing to pay. Legally, he's not supposed to but good luck proving it.

Do your best to park legally as much as possible, then hope for the best.

You paid him so I'd say yes...

How to get your money back:

1. Pay Lawyer 50$ to draft and send a letter to the company expressing your intent to sue.
2. Collect check.

Or...go boot his truck and charge him.

Towing companies...

They can steal your car and make you pay to get it back. It's a corrupt system, but that's what thrives in LA

Nah im in Baton Rouge now. It was and it was American Coachworks.

And I figured he might be trying to pull a quick buck off of me so I told him to give me his card and he said that its thier rules. He wrote me a "receipt" from the company. I figured I either pay him or have to drive 30 mins to get her car out of storage.

They're the #2 worst towing company in Baton Rouge.
I don't know how they got a contract in BR when they're 20 miles outside of town.
Their yard is north of Denham Springs in the middle of BFE Livingston Parish right next to a meth lab trailer park.

Yeah i've been unfortunately. Buddy got towed during football season and he asked me to drive him there. Granted he was actually parked like a jackass. TPOS I know.
Truck operator looked like his was on a 3 year strong meth binge, so I guess he fits right in with the area
