The MLS issued a statement on Saturday which reads: "Frank Lampard has signed a contract for NYCFC," with the 36-year-old midfielder heading Stateside at the end of the Premier League season in England.

The last few months have been riddled with confusion over his furture, after it was originally announced that the ex-Chelsea and England player had joined New York on a two-year deal last summer.

But he was immediately loaned to parent club Manchester City for whom he has impressed this current term.

Many thought he would only remain at the Etihad Stadium until the end of December before travelling to America for the MLS season which begins in March.

"The original intention was for that to start on January 1. I signed for Man City and have extended my period here and will join New York later.

"And in terms of Man City being sneaky, they could have signed me on a free anyway if that's what they wanted to do.

“The fact is I signed for New York, then I signed for Man City in the interim and now it has been extended.''

Thank you Garber for making the MLS look like a little league mickey mouse outfit.

By getting in bed with the City Football Group and letting them do what ever they wanted you have hurt the leagues image.

Disagree. I could argue it actually might help the league's image. MLS is getting a player that one of the best clubs in the world wants to keep.

No, MLS is getting a player after one one of the best clubs in the world does whatever it wants. Lampard isn't going to magically suck, but the league is basically getting sloppy seconds on a girl we thought we'd married already.
