Just got a G3, and I'm fairly retarded when it comes to apps, customization, etc. I have textra downloaded as of now, because Verizon messages can eat a duck.
What do I need to do to make this thing more badass?

Anyone found a good ROM that they like for the G3 or is it just root to get rid of the bloatware and wait for lollipop?

Lollipop + g3 =heaven.
Wait on doing to much customization until lollipop.
As for apps..pushbullet is legit. You can work on your PC and respond to texts coming in through the phone without ever taking it out of your pocket.
It all depends on what you're into as far as apps go. Describe a few things like what WiFi and Bluetooth devices you own, etc and we can give you a better idea.

Didn't know about this app. Nice find! The lenovo apps for this purpose are terrible.

Only thing close is air droid and that pos wants you to pay for anything that is useful. I hate crippled apps.

MightyText also does the same thing is and less of a space hog

Lollipop roms are out but still kinda beta. You can use it as a daily driver now, but a few more weeks and they should have it dialed in. G3 AOSP roms for 5.0 are out.
CM12
PAC
Roll with one of those. Also, gapps for 5.0 lollipop are out too. Check XDA.

Im not really a huge tech guy, and in the past Ive only used phones as a text/talk/fantasy sports device...
I know this thing is more than that, so Id like to utilize its abilities, rather than have a really expensive web browser
That pushbullet sounds legit, Ill grab it.
As far as WiFi and Bluetooth devices go, I dont own much... ipad, a few bluetooth speakers, a roku

Great. Start there. Look for apps to use with your BT speaker and roku.
FYI I have an IP camera in baby room.. WiFi thermostats and a Chromecast, dish TV app, wdtv app, onkyo avr app, pixstar app.. To send photos to my moms wifi frame in another state.. Etc.
The more apps that fit your lifestyle the better. You shouldn't need to hunt out geeky apps so much as find apps that work with things you already use.
Oh and android lost is a must have as well as turning on photo backup inside Google plus.
