Walk

As a drummer, I have to say this is horrible. IDK if I have ever seen a drummer play that stiff

He also did Clocks by Coldplay. Better but he is still so damn stiff. Needs to throw back a few brews and play.

ETA: I will also add that it is cool as frick that he put himself out there like that. He also says they're his favorite band. +1 for Cech in my book.

Like I said, I'm a drummer. I'm going to pick it apart. He keeps the beat MOST of the time but he does slip occasionally and he doesn't play those hats for shite. He may as well just set them to play closed all the time. If you listen to the song, he isn't even close. He plays zero accents and he hits everything with the same pressure throughout the song. It is like he's reading a tab verbatim.

ETA: Chelsea fan with the downvotes!

That's what I was thinking

I wonder how long he's been playing cause he just seemed so focused on keeping time that he wasn't able to get into it and that was holding him back. Come on Petr, you gotta at least look like you're having fun

You in a band? Good drummers are hard to come by. I always hear good musicians complaining that they don't exist.

Yeah. He didn't mix it up at all. You can always tell when a drummer is new to the instrument. They play scared. The good ones don't give a shite and just play.

I DO respect the shite out of him for posting these though. He knows he isn't all that good and still puts himself out there.

Something like that I float around from group to group around here filling in when needed. I get bored too easily with bands. They'll get too pushy with drummers. There is one guy I want to form a band with though. I actually taught him guitar in high school. Since then I have lost my ring and pinky finger on my left hand...hence my drum playing. Dude just fricking has it. You name a style and he can play it. Talented as hell. He's in another band right now though. They have some solid paying gigs at local bars and restaurants right now and he is hanging on to that. We've played a few times and have amazing chemistry. If he would grow a sack and drop his band we could do something pretty fricking solid.

Good drummers ARE hard to come by. Drummers in general are. I'm not saying I'm some drumming god by any means but I can hold my own. My future brother in law lives in Wilmington and he was telling me there are 4 times as many bands as there are drummers

ETA: I'm banking on Dandy to chime in later and back me up.

I also play drums. Picked it up 11 years ago, and I remember playing like this really early on. He plays extremely stiff as if, as you said, he's reading a tab. He's clearly not someone who has played for very long. I'd imagine he either just picked it up not long ago to learn or he hasn't played much over time. In my opinion, he needs to relax and find a "style" he likes. For example, I'm a big fan of Art Blakey so I got into playing jazz and that sort of thing. From learning to be better at my own thing, it made playing other people's shite so much easier. It's really just getting comfortable with where your hands are going without overthinking it.

Seriously? I was just in that area. Granted I didn't have my kit, but I miss jamming.

Have a group of friends back home that I get together with and we just mess around, but we've got pretty good chemistry and at the very least have a good time making music when we can

As a drummer, I think you have to practice some jazz to really get used to feeling the time and developing that limb interdependence.

Technical skill is great and all, but when you play like a robot, it sounds like shite

Petr is the shite in every way. Courtois is good but he'll never replace the Helmet.

Yup. He plays in a band up there. Explosive Math Lab or something? Every time we talk he brings it up. We plan on moving there eventually but if you ask him it isn't soon enough

I've told it several times on TD but here goes:

I was working in a wood shop. I was picking up some OT. Went to take a piss and took my gloves off (which I never did). BEFORE I went to piss, the wood planer I was working on had clogged up. I opened the hood because sometimes if you did that the chips would work out and suck through and the machine would clear up. I finished peeing and walked over to turn it off. In doing so I tripped on a power cable and went to brace my fall on the machine...which was open. There was a cutting rotor and a guard. Middle and pointer fingers landed on the guard and pinky and ring landed on rotor. It was quick and painless but I freaked the frick out because I've played guitar since I was 11 or so (I was 23 at the time). Grabbed some romex electrical wire and made a makeshift tourniquet and drove myself to the hospital. There wasn't anything they could do since the remnants of my fingers were basically the consistency of ground beef.

SILVER LINING: If it would have cut about 1/8" lower on those fingers the structure of my hand would have collapsed and I would have a gimp hand. They were able to clean it up enough to where that isn't a problem. AND if I had a gun to my head and had to lose two fingers, those were the two. All things considered, I'm pretty lucky. It makes for a fun conversation piece and it gave me a great excuse to finally buy a drum kit

He really does seem to be a cool guy. This is just icing on the cake. I've always appreciated his game even though I'm a Citeh fan.

Good area. I was in Jacksonville but went to Wilmington a decent bit for more night life. I didn't see as much live music there though. After living in Nola, you're kinda set up for disappointment in a lot of other cities

Stiff as frick, but hey, he loves it.

Definitely not a drummer. A lot of people think it´s easy or cool, or both, and voilá, there you have it....

Good drummers are coveted, but many ´artistas´ tend to try to ´bend´ them, as to what they want to hear for their creations (supposing the drummer hasn´t had a hand in the composition).

Kudos to the play jazz comment. Very, very important. In many ways.
