Minnesota - Pork-free food bank a "Human Rights" issue

The Somalian community in Minnesota continues to be a pain in the arse, although this is fairly benign compared to previous issues like their kids going off to be suicide bombers.


In this particular case, the Minnesota Somalis are organizing to demand that the welfare food bank be set up to cater to their particular dietary restrictions.

They're claiming it is a "human rights issue" that people too illiterate to read "pork" on an ingredients label can't follow the Islamic halal diet.

“Some food shelves are trying to meet the need, but some of them already got canned beans that have already been mixed with pork — and there is a literacy issue here,” said community activist Fartun Weli.

A group of first-generation Somali Americans says they need help in developing a food shelf that specializes in healthy foods that do not contain pork or pork byproducts.

“It’s about human rights also, basic human rights to get the proper food and also healthy food,” said Imam Hassan Mohamud.

I don't begrudge a group the right to participate at a food pantry if they end up down on their luck, but beggars can't be choosers. If they don't want pork, learn how to read so they don't take pork by accident.


If the Muslim community wants a pork-free food bank rather than teaching their members how to read, they can put one together themselves.



I know this comes off as a stupid and petty issue, but it is yet another case of how an insular group that comes over here demand that the US culture adapt to them instead of it being a two-way street.

God forbid they learn how to do things like read the words "kosher", "halal", or "pork-free" on their free food because that would take some effort on their part.
