Shouldn't the Metrorail be in operation from South Fannin St. Station to Reliant Park Station the afternoon of opener (30th)? The online trip planner only shows bus operating route when completing the form; that rail station has a park and ride and shows the rail on other days just 1 minute direct trip while the bus is a roundabout longer trip. Am I missing something, since it usually shows all available routes?
TIA

It should be running as per usual on their weekend schedule for the game. $1.25 per ride if you're just going to be using the rail for the game otherwise it's better to get a day pass from a cost standpoint.
should be about a 5 minute ride.

OK, that's what they said too; just don't know why the trip planner just shows the goofy bus route when entering in. The parking is $3 I believe, so pretty cheap way to go. I am arriving late and will be planning just using for the game. Will the parking lot fill or is there overflow lots there?

There are plenty of places to park downtown. On the weekend will be much easier than during the week, obviously! Te rail was designed to bring people to NRG years ago for the Superbowl. Just trust me here!

Strangely enough, I've only ridden it once and that was to MM Park.

Where is the best place to catch it from downtown? (Preferably somewhere near Lucky's)

Easier then at Fannin South park & Ride?
My deal is though arriving late afternoon on SW (4:15) and then getting car but will be limited time schedule. Probably stay by Hobby then just have enough time to get to the metrorail there and be at stadium area by 6:30 or so?

I'd stay in Pearland and there's a way in that avoids all traffic coming and going. Pearland has a great set of restaurants and hotels.

I don't think I'd want to leave my car at Lucky's until after the game. For one, it's about a 15-minute walk from there to the nearest rail station at Main Street Square station. Then after the game, which if you stay until the end you might not get back until after midnight (there might be a wait in line to get back on the train after the game), you'd have a corresponding walk back to Lucky's. Parking is free at street meters downtown after 6:00 p.m on Saturday, so I recommend parking your car anywhere on a fairly busy, well-lit street near one of the several rail stops downtown-midtown to make it easy to get to your car after the game. Don't leave anything visible in your car. If you're staying at one of the downtown hotels it's not really an issue. Street parking downtown near rail stops may be at a premium on Saturday evening. You could always pay for a surface lot or garage parking within a couple blocks of a station, but that may cost $5-$10.

Wouldn't Hobby still be closer?

Its very easy to catch from Main Street as it runs all the way through downtown on Main. You can walk from Lucky's but it doesn't pass right by there or near Minutemaid

OK booked hold on Mainstay Suites ($95) at Old Spanish Trail (90) and 288; Will this be easy to get to around 5PM gameday from Hobby and then can drive to Smith Lands parking lot or vacinity to take metro in time to get to stadium for just a little bit of pre game time?

If you are planning on landing at 5. Driving straight to Smith Lands you'll make it in time for Kickoff. Won't get a lot of tailgating in if any....but you should make kickoff. If there is no traffic! I would get several routes to the lot and use a navigation that tracks the traffic to get you their the quickest route possible. You'll have about a 20-30 min walk to the stadium.
You don't need to take metro from there. That's gonna add more time unless they are running buses to and from the lot! Just walk to North Stadium and head south. It leads right into the red parking lot!

OK thanks
Actually land like 4:20 and by time get car will probably be maybe 5:30. The map shows 20min from hobby to mainstay, guess this with no traffic? Should try park somewhere else or maybe stay near hobby and drive to Fannin South? Game not until probably like 8:10 so think will stll have time.
