Yeah I know Lottery is trashy. Driving back from Destin today, shocked that Alabama and Mississippi is not involved in these games. Why is that?

The lottery is trashy but Alabama and Mississippi don't participate? I don't know what to make of this.

Do they have lottery games?

Are they part of another multiple state lottery?

Because both states wanted to move up on the "Trashiest States Rankings."

Now the states are ranked in the following order:

50. Louisiana
49a. Mississippi
49b. Alabama

In Alabama there was a big push in the late 90s to start a lottery to benefit education and the general fund but the Baptists threw an absolute fit and prevented it from happening.

No dancing. No alcohol. And no lottery.

I know the last time Alabama tried, churches all over the state beat it to death. The time before that, there was so much fluff, including provisions and tax breaks for casinos, and a campaign by lobbying groups based in Mississippi, it had no chance. I believe some people connected with lawmakers and the Mississippi lobbyests went to jail over some of it.

It wasn't just the baptists, catholics threw a fit too. There was a huge campaign by the catholic churches in baldwin county against it. Ironic since they all have their own bingo nights and draw down lotteries.
