Any of you ever listen to the Nostalgia Critic? I think these are funny, he does reviews of old movies and just bashes them (they're never good movies, just ones from your childhood that make you question what you were thinking).

My favorites are:

Airborne

Suburban Commando

Judge Dredd

Star Wars Christmas Special

They have two shows, Half in the Bag and Best of the Worst. I think I prefer Best of the Worst but they're both great.

Just go ahead and watch all their stuff. The Plinkett reviews are great. The Pre Rec stuff isn't as good though.

Yeah. I was at one point a fan of the NC, but RLM just blows him out of the water. Even the least of their efforts is better than the NC. It comes off that he's trying too hard, but RLM it just comes natural and funny. He tries to much and too often, and he's not funny to me anymore.

Seriously, this review is natural: LINK

The vast majority of NC aren't. I did like his Surf Ninja review though: LINK

The Nostalgia Critic is overstepping his area now.

The original Nostalgic Critic was appealing because he reviewed "Nostalgia" material. These were typically movies and television shows that most people suppressed in their childhood memories. Occasionally, he would do "Old vs. New" pieces where he compared older nostalgic films against their newer remakes.

His schtick was basic. He would show highlights of the movie(mostly the more weird, confusing, or terrible scenes) and provide commentary and it worked and it was enjoyable for the most part.

Now that he's apparently utilizing his ad-revenue and rebooted the series. His schtick is to alternate between reviewing a movie(it doesn't have to be old and nostalgic, just a bad movie) or providing his own little thought-pieces on film in general.

In the past, his shows were limited to him and his room, therefore all focus was on either him or the movie being reviewed. Now each review is sprinkled with the hit-or-miss "comedy" skits involving his newer castmembers; token black man and female. These skits can last a good portion of the review and take attention from the true humor of the series, the actual movie review.

some of his points are really funny, but god he has horrible case of youtube/vlogger syndrome with all the screaming, the faces he makes, the quick cuts, etc.

It's horrible

His earlier reviews were very funny. But now he tries doing these little sketches in-between and they are pretty awful

When I am made dictator of the earth, I am going to make all of these nitpicky "criticism" sites illegal and hunt down these hacks to the ends of the earth with my hounds from hell. Genuine criticism raises the level of debate, and it discusses ideas and how the film services those ideas (I said "services"). Replacing that with juvenile potshots that really have nothing to do with the overall work is just lazy.

How about this? Why don't you create something? I mean, Roger Ebert could WRITE. People read him not because he could find the shot with a boom mike showing, but because he was an engaging writer trying to have a dialog with his audience. And he treated even the worst pieces of shite with some measure of respect. He looked at what they were trying to do and judged them on their own terms.

These youtube hacks need to be destroyed. They add nothing, and actually harm genuine criticism. The Nostalgia Critic can lick the sweat off my balls.

RLM actually do good critiques. Watch the two part Half in the Bag episode of Jack and Jill or the Plinkett review of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Its not just petty stuff, its all good criticisms. They also produce their own stuff. They were amateur film makers first and are working on another movie now.

If you're looking for real in depth reviews I'd suggest looking up Rob Ager on youtube.

Well, to be fair, the reviews are entertainment pieces themselves, meant to be funny. The intent is not really to "review", but to spoof or lampoon a film.

Yeah, I exclude RLM. They have genuine criticism in there. They are trying to teach people about movie-making. No problems with them. They are smuggling in legit commentary underneath the snark.

But this recent run of snarky "aren't I clever?" takedowns which aren't really that clever need to stop. They are making America worse.
