Work on the soon-to-be-completed statewide speckled trout stock assessment indicates the species is in good shape despite recent concerns from some coastal anglers, a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist told a crowd of almost 200 people last night in Lake Charles.
“In every case, what we’re trying to do is look at what has been the past status of the stock. What is the current status of the stock?” LDWF’s Harry Blanchet said. “Is the stock producing recruits on an annual basis to the fishery? That’s the bottom line.
“In all cases, we’re seeing the stock is well capable of reproducing itself.”

I like seeing that they had a Q&A answer meeting with the LWF. There were lots of rumors and smoke being blown about. Probably even some death threats on ol' Drost
There should be no change in the limits based on a social agenda, base it on facts of the biological assessment. The trout stock in LA has proved that it can sustain the creel limit in place, until the numbers show otherwise

This was talked about during the meeting and wlf basically said they agree but it is legislators decision, and any time a politician is involved there will be a social agenda

So west louisiana can't? When will east louisiana become like the west? So silly.

I'm telling yall, this year has been an absolute banner year in Cocodrie. I can't think of any other way to say it. The key is that most people are running to the islands, but a lot of the fish are still hanging around up north.
I wouldn't doubt that this is a problem in a lot of places. People are going to June/July spots, but the fish remain in a May pattern.

I'm not sure I follow your point...
I assume you are talking about the reduced creel on Big Lake? That reduced limit didn't come from scientific information. It came from the lobbying of the fishermen and the guides in the area. It wasn't done across the state, because the others in the East weren't bitching
From what I've read, the 15 speck limit hasn't improved the fish count. So take it FWIW
To quote Henry Mouton in 2006

Big Lake Trout Limits
I had over 700 phone calls and emails asking me to Lower the Limit, I had 3 asking me NOT to lower the limit. Leaving MORE fish in the water can NOT hurt anything, it can ONLY HELP!! I care about the future of the fishery, I will ALWAYS Err on the side of caution.
There is NOT a Limited Entry program for Guide Fishermen in LA and the LDWF Commission does NOT have the Authority to do this, ONLY the Legislature can.
Once again, the REASON I asked for this Big Lake Reduction is that is what the people that fish this area asked for, I have had several calls from fishermen in other parts of LA asking for a Lower Limit but till I see a LARGE, Overwhelming Support for Lowering the Limit Statewide, I will NOT move on this. I am NOT going to try to organize groups/people to try to lower the limit in other parts of the state, that is NOT my issue or my responsbility.

Exactly, which makes their point of the stocks are in no danger seem silly.

Why would it make their assessment seem silly. Should it be different? Or are you trying to say it makes the previous reduction limit seen silly?

It was silly...
And to bring it up again for the whole state was silly too. Words were taken out of context and it snowballed
But I think all of us know that a lot of folks in LA are silly too. Especially ones that make the most noise

the guy probably doesn't even know how the stock assessments are done.
He sounds like one of those guys from LA Sportsman's forums...

I assume this was aimed at me. I'm aware of how they assess the stock, and don't do LAS
