quote:

Friedland is a partner with the firm Munger, Tolles & Olson, where another recently appointed judge, John Owens, also practiced. Friedland is the third nomination for judgeship to come from that firm, which has been a large donor to Sen. Diane Feinstein and other politicians. The largest candidate recipient was Barack Obama, who received $65,531, according to the Judicial Action Group of Washington, D.C.
quote:

“Ms. Friedland has specifically stated that the Constitution has no validity apart from what a judge gives it, while the philosophy should be exactly the opposite. Her record indicates a clear disregard for a government run by the people and rooted in the rule of law. According to her own briefs, rights begin and end with judges, and her writings have detailed the limiting of religious liberty and the discrediting of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs on homosexuality.

Fat Mary voted "Aye" for cloture. 60 votes needed.

I don't care about Ms. Friedland's religious views unless it is anti-religious in that it restricts it, but am concerned about the cronyism in the Obama admin to nominate from that firm.

Transparency! Yay!

Pisses me off that CSPAN cut away from the Lois Lerner hearing.

What happened to the nuclear option for judges? I didn't think cloture needed 60 anymore.

Well... I guess I was wrong. CSPAN was showing 60 required, but it passed, so I guess you were right
