That should no longer exist...

First - forget SMU - their RPI was over 300...

That's crazy.

The real story is a quality team that if they played in favorite son conferences would have been a top 5 team in seeding...

But GB - This team could have done real damage in the tourney and had a chance like anyone in this weak season.

But they weren't part of a label..."major,:
quote:

Green Bay (24-6, 14-2): The Phoenix were the most deserving small-conference regular season champion not to get a bid. Their season unraveled when stars Keifer Sykes and Alec Brown both sustained injuries in Horizon League semifinals against Milwaukee, contributing to a surprising loss that dashed Green Bay's hopes of an automatic bid and ultimately excluded it from the NCAA tournament.

Green Bay coach Brian Wardle had hoped the committee would consider the injury factor as well as that his team dominated the Horizon League and beat ACC champion Virginia in November. Alas, it wasn't enough to outweigh a resume lacking other quality wins.

Conference bias matters - and majors...and big name majors.

Virginia playing its way into a No. 1 seed by winning the ACC tournament????

Case in point - . Did the Cavaliers deserve it? I'll leave that up to you to decide. But they didn't win a single nonconference game against a team that made the tournament.

But they're a #1 seed. Based on old perception in no-dominate - one and done - crappy basketball product - where mid-majors like Butler/Wichy St. et al. have proved they're just as worthy.

(Butler was a mid-major when they were a consistent final team...and still is size-wise a mid-major...despite conference craziness.)

The day of prejudice of mid-majors in CBB should be over. This isn't 1985. Patrick Ewing isn't walking through that door with Georgetown.

CBB is wide-open. More so than ever in it's history.

at first I thought SMU got screwed, but really when you think about it, no one got it as bad as GB

The First Four needs to be all at large teams.

This. When you break down their resume it isn't all that great. They picked off a few good home wins because in today's CBB no one can really play on the road for some reason.

You can also tell by the seeding that the committee was not too high on the American.

Forgot that they beat Virginia (a team who lost to freaking Tennessee by 35!! But that's another story)

Also lost a close game to Wisconsin by just 3 points.

Impressive.

I agree with them. Good/decent top half of the conference, trash bottom half.

They didn't win the horizon and their best players are hurt...they take those things into consideration. Hell, the committee asked Kansas about the status of embiid before they seeded them.

Agreed. They let BYU in even with one of their best players suffering a torn ACL and not being able to play.

And did the exact opposite to Kentucky last year
