A House chairman probing the IRS scandal on Wednesday said that President Obama has reneged on a promise to have his aides cooperate with the investigation, forcing the Ways and Means Committee to conduct a dragnet for emails and documents needed to smoke out the truth.

Rep. Dave Camp also revealed that federal agents conducting an investigation into the Internal Revenue Service's bid to punish Tea Party and conservative critics of the president have yet to talk to a single target of the scandal.

Camp, whose committee is one of several looking into the 2010-2013 scandal, put the blame for the drawn out investigations on Capitol Hill at the president’s feet.

“I don’t fully understand why it’s taken them so long given that the president promised,” Camp said at a media roundtable hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. “He promised that he would have quick action and we still don’t have the documents from an agency that is in this administration."

His committee has been frustrated with the administration's failure to cough up emails from Lois Lerner, who ran the IRS department that blocked Tea Party groups from winning the typically quick approval of tax exempt status. Lerner was on Capitol Hill Wednesday where she refused to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Isn't this moot? Seems like a lot of late night shredding was taking place. With such huge implications, they were probably pretty smart about how they spoke about the targeting so emails, even from whistleblowers, would be minimal.

W&M Committee would have an uphill battle finding anything of value IMO.

No doubt. Wasn't Lerner the biggest visitor to the White House? No records unless someone was recording the conversations. I am pretty sure it was proven too that all the liberals high up had a fake email account set up for things like this too.

You can pretty much now conclude that this came from the WH in the first place.

He doesn't want an impeachable offense/CRIME to see the light of day.

I would assume that this would actually fall into the crime category with impeachment being the ultimate result.

I would assume there are federal abuse of power or office criminal statutes...

One thing that has stuck out (to me anyway) is the constant talk of this mysterious damning "evidence". By Issa's tone when she kept pleading the 5th, I'm starting to think they don't anything on anyone - just all smoke. If he did, he would say "Ok, no problem" and proceed with the next step, whatever that may be.

So it's ok for the Gov't to demand the media tell them who their sources are, but not the other way around? Riggggght.

That's because the IRS and Obama administration are witholding evidence. To wit:

quote:

Issa noted in his remarks that Oversight has “conducted 33 bipartisan, transcribed interviews with employees from the IRS” but that the IRS “continues to withhold” some of Lerner’s emails that Issa requested in his three separate subpoenas for

So what recourse do they have then exactly? I'm afraid Issa has misrepresented what they actually have......or he's done a shitty job of trying to obtain the data.

This case has set a terrible precedent for future investigations.

The recourse the government has? To release all of the evidence Why won't they release the information? It's been asked for. The government is asserting their innocence but is not giving the investigators the information they are asking for.

Only one person can appoint a special prosecutor in either the IRS case or the Benghazi case or any other case.

And not a chance in hell he does so.

Many orders of magnitude worse than Nixon by far. Forty years go the Demons were demanding the head of Nixon on a silver platter. Now the sheep of the party are sleeping silently. I want them to remember that stance for future reference when a conservative President comes to office.
