I just watched the master. I didn't love the movie but it reminded me Phoenix is one of the real talents of this generation. Leo doesn't have a performance like that up his sleeve.

I just watched it for the first time as well today and I agree. I don't know if Leo could have pulled this off but I doubt we will ever get to see anything like it from him.

Leo and it ain't close....at all. He's the best in the business with Daniel Day-Lewis

Spoken like a true product of the MTV/Kardashian's generation.

Truly LOL at you if you honestly believe that talent wise "it ain't even close".

This.

I'm a Leo fan, but not a fan boy like many who act as if he is the greatest actor of his generation simply because he is a big star.

Joaquin could pull off ANY role that Leo has ever played. Leo on the other hand I highly doubt could pull off Walk the Line or The Master.

Leo's a great actor, but he just plays Leo now. His best performance was in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I'd say Joaquin's the better actor right now, dude has freaky range.

Shutter Island is probably Leo's beat performance. I loved that movie and no one ever talks about it. I think he's insanely overrated in the departed. He's out done by at least 3 other actors in that movie. He's a great leading guy though. And he's carried some movies with a solid performance

JP is intense. He was awesome in Gladiator. Master is phenomenal.

They're different. I don't think one is better than the other. There different. Neither could do the role of the other.

JP is a guy that you forget who is playing the role when you watch a movie he is in. He completely becomes the role and you get absorbed into his performance.

Leo is a solid actor, but i rarely forget it's Leo when I'm watching the movie.

Phoenix didn't pull off Walk The Line. Or at least he didn't pull off Johnny Cash. He in no way embodied Cash. Don't know why I have to keep saying this. I haven't seen The Master so I can't comment on his performance in that. However, everyone needs to shut up about Walk the Line, it was not a good performance of Cash. Only people who don't know Cash think he did well as Cash.

Do not concur. I am always aware it's him. He always seems to stay in the same wheelhouse of character development imo. He seems to turn every character into a meek bitch.

Not saying Leo doesn't stay in the same wheelhouse either. Just really can't stand JP.

You know it's funny you seem to be the only one saying that.

Phoenix not only won the golden globe and got nominated for an Oscar for Walk the Line, but Johnny and June Cash themselves were pleased with it before they died.

As a matter of fact there have been several stories and interviews over the years from Johnny Cash's friends, family, and music critics who all have praised the job that Phoenix did. You seem to personally not like it and you're without a shadow of a doubt in a very small minority that would think that.

And boom there it is.

I knew I sensed some strong bias in your ridiculous Walk the Line take.

Not the only one.

Just the fact that Cash wasn't a bitch. He turned him into one.

First time I saw it I thought it was great and he was as Cash

I really started to hate it after reading Cash's biography and really learning about the man. Saw the movie a few more times and it truly started to grate on my nerves. He just wasn't Cash. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

I can't stand him because of what he did in that performance. That movie defines the bias, not my bias defining the movie.

LINK

As I said, Leo is a great actor. He elevates everything that he's in, however, Phoenix is simply on another level.

Do you think Cash was publicly going to speak out in a negative way regarding that performance? The man was very marketing savvy. There is no way he would have said anything publicly, the movie meant to much for his legacy. Re-introduced him to a younger generation.

If JP isn't playing Cash and just a random character he nails it. The character he played just wasn't Cash.
