Sunday's key to the game

The Saints are 1 for 7 in the Red Zone this season, a 14% efficiency. Last season they were operating at a 64% clip in the red zone. The 1-for-7 stat in the red zone is the lowest in the NFL. I expect that to be a focal point this week in practice as the Saints get ready to take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at home. The Saints have to fix the rushing attack, protect Drew Brees, and cash in on six points instead of three points if they have any hopes of sustained post-season run in January. The good news is we’re in week 2, and there is a lot of time to improve. And, we’ll need improvement considering the next opponent: The Cardinals are third in the league against the run, giving up just 58 yards a game on the ground.

This game scares me just because of their ability to stop the run. If the Saints get off to a slow start on offense they could be in trouble. Special teams will be a key element in the field position battle. Covering kicks versus Patrick Peterson will be vital. The biggest thing to me in this game is going to be the mental mistakes. A few of the red zone problems have been due to penalties. It's going to take a complete team effort and the offense needs to have balance.

Saints have rushed the ball off tackle more this year than last year, but have been less effective.
the Saints have gone from rushing off tackle 20% last season to 29% this season. In 2012 they averaged 6.9 YPC on those runs a majority of them coming from Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory. This season they have rushed for 1.7 YPC with Mark Ingram getting majority of the carries.
The running game needs to get going to establish more balance, ultimatley it will make the offensive line and the passing game better.

I don't know if Robinson is NFL-ready but we could use a bruiser like him now.

Limit big plays. And that is in all 3 phases
They have a few playmakers at WR, and Palmer can actually get the ball to them.
on DEF, keep it away from their ball hawking LSU guys in the secondary

the Saints are also in about the same spot statistically as the two teams that they've already faced... as far as running the ball.
Lions are 22nd running the ball.
Saints are 24th running the ball.
Rams are 25th running the ball.

Do they have the balls to put Peterson or Mathieu on Graham, or do they sit back in a zone, which somewhat neutralizes their playmakers' ability?
Do they even try to take Graham away, or do they play the "he can get what he wants but no one else will beat us" game?

When they played the Rams their Tight End Cook had a huge day. If they haven't changed anything up I'd expect Graham to have a solid game, considering he was literally our entire offense last game.

It's key to an effective aerial attack - that's why we stick to it. It must come around or we're in for a long season. We gotta lose the predictability.
