Been a deadly year for air crashes in AK this year. If any of you have fished the Kenai or Russian, you have have flown out of there.

Otter crashed at Soldotna airport. May have been tourists fishing the Kenai and Russian Rivers. Victims may have burned in the plane.

For many Alaskans, flying across the state is common, exposing residents to a litany of hazards including treacherous mountain passes and volatile weather.

Alaska has already seen a several plane crashes this year, including a June 28 crash that killed a pilot and two passengers on a commercial tour in the Alaska Range.

Almost all, if not all Otters up here have been repowered. Beavers still run the old radial engines.

Here's vid and recording of a Beaver on floats crashing on Lake Hood, Anchorage.

9 dead were tourists from S. Carolina who were going to Lake Clark NP for bear viewing.

Of the 12 tourists killed in place crashes this year in AK, 11 were from S. Carolina, on two different plane crashes. The other was from New Mexico.

We've had 4 with one fatality within 100 miles of town. It's shaping up to be a bad year.

Not a lot of transportation options though.

I was only about 4 miles from the crash. I've been up here fishing this past week. I've got some great pics and videos for y'all. I'll post them when I get back tomorrow.

Man, glad you didn't decide to fly that day. You never know.

We actually talked about it, but there was no chance we would have been on that plane.

Betcha a coke and a candy bar that otter was overloaded.

I have lots and lots of hours riding in those things, and they just don't go down like that. The only thing I ever rode in that rivaled my sense of security in a twin otter was a C130.

That's my thought. Very experienced pilot but a loaded plane. Can't imagine what else it could be, unless it was engine failure on takeoff.
