SEC baseball tournament format and possibilities

(I apologize if this is Germans but I just refreshed my memory on the NEW SEC baseball tournament format and thought some others might be interested.)
The tournament participants are the 12 teams with the best SEC records. This is a change where in the past 10 teams went to the tournament.
The two teams with the worst SEC records still stay home.
The divisional winners are seeded #1 & #2 with the next two teams with the best SEC records seeded #3 & #4. Those four teams get a first round bye and don't play on Tuesday, May 21 but have their first game on Wednesday, May 22.
Teams seeded #5-#12 play a single elimination game on Tuesday. Losers go home, winners advance to play teams seeded #1-#4 on Wednesday.
From Wednesday through Friday, the tournament is a typical double elimination format.
However on Saturday, it reverts to single elimination.
The championship game is on Sunday, May 26, winner take all and is the SEC's automatic NCAA tournament team.
SEC tournament bracket with game times
If the season ended now (before today's games are played), Vandy would be #1 seed and LSU #2.
Arkansas would be #3 and S Carolina #4.
Tenn and Georgia would stay home.

In what way? It's hard to screw up an 8 team bracket.

The format isn't so bad. What doesn't make sense, though, is the single elimination on Sat. So if a 1 or 2 seed win their first two games and get to Sat, a team that has already lost can beat them once and are in the championship. That's crazy.

I agree. I suppose the logic is to limit the maximum number of games the winning team has to play because the regionals start 5 days later.
Also, the #1 & #2 seeded teams probably have a national top 8 seed locked up. For sure the #1 seed does.

I just remember something funky the last couple of seasons where the lower seeds got more rest between their first and second games than the top seeds. I think it allowed them to utilize their pitching staffs better.
ETA:
I don't remember exactly, but I remember a lot of pissing and moaning by the Rant (of course this is a daily thing).

It's way better than last years. I wish they would have had a 10 or 12 team tournament in 2011.
