No, I didn't just see/read Moneyball. Just wondering if there are specific teams that use it, besides the Rays.

Well I doubt the Yankees use it. Look at their roster.

I'd say there are still a good 10-15 clubs that are still pretty old school, but all of them use advanced metrics to some degree. SF is a good example of a team that doesn't use much and has had success.

I always assumed it was a strategy employed by teams with small payrolls

Just about all of them use it in some form except for the Phillies.

I was making a joke about how old the Yankees are, and how they will probably have a bad year.

This is certainly true in it being the driving force for those teams. But you said "in some form." Sabermetrics are now very well established, completely mainstream, and have proven to be fairly reliable indicators of a players' effectiveness.

They're just stats now. There's no team out there completely ignores the stats.

It's hard to believe that the scouting that was shown in Moneyball was actually how they did it. Unless that was just Hollywood dumbing it down?

I think they must have failed statistics.

What are you talking about? The way they talked? If so its a bit over the top but alot of it is true. Guys talk about guys swings, bodies, "makeup" etc

All of them use sabermetrics. Some use them much more than others, but they all use them for sure.

And you can clearly see how all of the Yankees signings this offseason were influenced by sabermetics. They were going for guys that can get on base (when healthy). Youk, Hafner, Overbay. All guys that can work a count, work a pitcher, and get on base.

The use of stats is everywhere in baseball today. Whether it's defensive positioning, right/left platoons, or who to bring in from the pen. Every team uses it.

Every single one of them. So does every NBA, NFL, and NHL team. It's the extent to which they use advanced metrics, but all of them do.
