They have more similarities to Slayer than Panic at the Disco. And, obviously, they have almost no similarities with Slayer.
I just find emo has become a go to lazy insult that means nothing.

quote:Thats who I was trying to think of. I really don't get the love for Japandroids on this board. I tried to get into them after seeing posters on here with good taste hype them up. They sound like another whiny emo band to me. Guess a lot of people dig that sound.
Panic at the Disco

I think the lead singer of Japandroids sounds a lot closer to Slayer than Panic at the Disco. With the caveat that he clearly sounds nowhere near either. But I think the style of borderline yelling which Japandroids employs has more in common with thrash metal than emo. Panic puts a pretty high premium on harmonies, which the Japandroids just don't.
And this isn't a "Japandroids are awesome and why can't you realize it" criticism. this is "your critique makes no logical sense". I hate Kiss (see my avatar), but it would be like me saying that they are too country. My reasons for disliking them would make no logical sense (that's not my reason for disliking them). But of Kiss' sins, being too country is not among them.

I understand what you are saying, but as I posted above, Japandroids lead singer sounds like a stereotypical punk band(to me), which happens to be one of the things I hate most in this world. BUT, I will likely be at Spanish Moon since there is much more to a band that the lead singer.

So just checking in on this thread and all I learned was that Japandroids are an emo/slayer sounding band.

I don't mind emotion in a song at all, in fact I feel that all songs have emotion in them. I just don't care for the way they decide to express theirs. Different strokes for different folks.
