Diego was fantastic.
The South American hosts just referred to the King of Spain as Su Majestad.
Good stuff.

From what I've seen of Lopez, this could be the goalkeeping controversy that Mourinho was looking for.

No, we've always known he was great. He's been called up a few times, and was courted by all major EPL and Serie A sides.
I don't see it happening.
He will get paid well to play second fiddle.
Mourinho needs to go. As I said before, I think he pulls this CL out of his arse, and may not leave for another year.
Ancelotti wants to come to Madrid. Laudrup would be fantastic, but I don't see it, according to his recent declarations (which may simply be a well orchestrated deflection).
Real Madrid eats managers up, there's got to be a good program going on, and major synchronicity. Mourinho has not had it from day one, and I can assure you, were he to win the CL this year, it still means nothing to slightly over half of the RM members.
He is the antithesis of everything what RM stands for, except winning.
By 'hook or crook' may be good enough in many parts of the world, and admired, not at RM.
Given FCB's recent hegemony, a possible CL title would be well received, but with a 'sour' taste.

I could see it happening under Mourinho. He was never trying to replace Casillas with Adan. Casillas with Lopez, I can buy it. If Mourinho moves on (or is forced to move on), the next manager would be insane to retain him over Casillas.
I agree with you that Mourinho is not a great stylistic fit at Real Madrid (though, he certainly has made some concessions while there), and he certainly doesn't help himself by never shutting the hell up. I like that about him, but he doesn't know when to stop. I wish that he did.

I don't know who the impetus behind the signing of Modric was, but if it was Mourinho, he was trying. In most of the games where Real Madrid has dropped points, they've been exposed on the counter while being unable to break the opposition down after significant possesion. That's an uncharacteristically Mourinho team.

possession? and what to do with the ball. yes, you're right.
He's lacking a corpulent striker, fairly deft on the ball, and given to diving (who by the way, finished out his European career in fantastic fashion, kudos to him).

I mean, I get it. Real Madrid is above that, but watching Oezil and Ronaldo on the counter isn't exactly like watching turtles frick. The GOAT greatest team of all time can attest to that. I just don't understand how it can't be frustrating for Madridistas to watch the greatest counter-attacking player in the world receive the ball 40 yds from goal with four defenders on his back.

Oezil
He's very smart, he knows better times are coming, and meanwhile, he may get some great CV action.

Ronaldo is the perfect player for Oezil, and vice versa.
I know that Madristas would prefer a one-footed Argentine who either takes 8 defenders on, makes a central run into the box, or moves 40 yards from right-to-left to find his left winger with a diagonal through ball. But, they can't have him.

Not the current presidency, surely one of the candidates to the presidency.
I think this one will content himself with bringing a Welshman who can 'chapurrear' some Spanish.
