Does Sweeps Week Still Matter?

I saw that this week is the last week of sweeps. Does this even matter anymore? I use to remember networks would get a big star, 3d glasses (3rd Rock) or have a "super sized" episode during sweeps. It use to mean something during Must See Tv Thursday but network tv is a vast wasteland of crap now. The vast majority of what I watch is on cable where they play an entire season each week with no breaks and don't resort to gimmicks to real in the viewers. I am so glad I don't watch network tv where they have 2 new episodes then a month of reruns.
