If the PS4 releases before the 720, will that be good for Sony?

looking back at the 360 coming out before the ps3, it did so much better in sales(as i remember it). does getting the jump on another company make the difference?

It really helped in the US, but not so much in the rest of the world.

Price point plus late release screwed the PS3

I think by now people are set on which console they like. I think it will have a negligible impact on sales.

Why? The most recent generation is pretty blaring proof that people are not set in their ways and show very little brand loyalty. PS2 had ~80% of hardware sales and it was set far more evenly this generation.

I had the PSOne but still peferred my N64 to it. Then I got the dreamcast and found out about free games(best console ever). Then when it came down to xbox or PS2, what sold me was the games that each system had and for me all the games that I wanted to play were on xbox(HALO) and then I for one just hated the PS controller the thumb analog placement sucked and didn't really work that well, xbox fixed that.

Then came XBOX 360 & PS3 ... XBOX still had the games I wanted to play, it was coming out earlier, good price point, & PS still had shitty controller.

So I guess this will come down to again to which console has more of the games that I like to play and which doesn't have the shitty controller.

The Wii came out a year after the 360 and the Wii trounced the other consoles in terms of sales. The PS3 just passed the 360 in worldwide sales, but considering Sony dominated the previous two generations, it's hard to call that a win.

I think it definitely helps. However, Sony botched the launch of the ps3, so I think that had more to do with their early struggles than the 360 launching a year earlier. The PS3 was stupid expensive, only had fps and sports games at launch and not many cared about blue ray at the time.

This, 360 and PS3 are virtually tied worldwide in sales.

Depends on how much sooner.

If it gets the head start the 360 did, then absolutely.

XBox was able to secure tons of game contracts

Revealing the PS4. Dunno about release date. Looks like some games will be revealed with developers showing up.

I never really understood this huge thumb placement Xbox advantage. As far as I'm concerned, the ps3 controller layout is symmetrical--and that's fine with me. To each his own I guess.
