Towson and I agree with you. At least feed the regional economy.

Fixed and beyond that many kids that play for McNeese probably are LSU fans. Let them get a chance to play in Tiger Stadium. It's a short bus ride and they would at least bring more fans than Towson or Ga Southern.

this is just another impediment they put in their own way
I assume they are doing it to improve their chances with the playoff selection committee starting in 2014. They are determined to make non-conference strength of schedule one of the factors in the selection process. If they can include it as one factor, then agenda-driven committee members can give it as much weight as they need to to get the teams they want into the playoff.

Why wouldn't non-conference SOS be a factor? There is no reason it wouldn't.

If you schedule an FCS team, you are a pussy. Don't schedule them anymore. Its a detriment to the game.
Says the Southern Cal fan who schedules teams that lose to FCS teams.
San Jose State is 1-1 in their last two games against UC Davis. Is UC Davis even good for a FCS team? No, they average less than 5 wins over the last three years.
Is that the only example? No, 2011 USC opponent Minnesota scheduled and lost to 2011 North Dakota State. NDSU was at least an excellent FCS team (winning the FCS championship) but they soundly beat a FBS and BCS team in Minnesota:

The best FCS teams are actually better than not just the bad midmjors, they are better than the worst BCS teams in the country. Refusing to play them if you are the Big 10 is a good idea but only because your lower teams will get embarrassed on a regular basis by the better FCS teams.

if it's a variable it shouldn't be worth much

I would love it if they considered non-conference schedules for BCS teams - but I'm not interested in how good the trash is you played... i'm interested in how outstanding the excellent teams you played were.
