I don't see that one happening either. Han is from Corasaunt. If Obi Wan had known his father we would have already met him. Han is 10 years older than Luke so unless Han's father stopped by Tattooine for a beer and got his arse saved by Obi Wan in a bar fight, I don't see it happening

I know very little of the EU, save the Tim Zahn books. However, wasn't Han from a different planet and not Corasaunt? If he is from Corasaunt, then it would not be a twisting to have ObiWan know his dad, since as a member of the Jedi Council ObiWan clearly lived on Coursaunt for several years at least during the prequels. I don't know his back story, but I though he only hid on Tatooine after EpIII to keep on eye on Luke.

I think people really need to stop freaking out over all this stuff as it is just a movie. Harrison Ford was awesome as Han Solo, yes. But Sean Connery was awesome as James Bond and William Shatner was awesome as Captain Kirk; both characters have been portrayed by different actors who were just as effective as the original actors.

The choice of actor isn't the issue. It's the stupid directions that the story could possibly go in.

Unless they pick Shia, in which case -

Neither of you know how to spell Coruscant, and Han was from Corellia.

2. Technology in the PREQUELS is more advanced than the SEQUELS

Not really, and you're looking at the economy of the Star Wars galaxy the wrong way. The Republic was prosperous for everyone. When the Empire took over, they basically rewrote the history books of the entire galaxy. The Jedi were made outlaws, etc. The "Core" worlds prospered. The tech in 4,5,6 is much more utilitarian than 1,2,3; and that makes sense in an totalitarian economy where all the wealth of the galaxy is funneled into the Core worlds to finance the Empire's rule.

The Empire had an endless supply of clones to fly Tie Fighters, pilot AT/ATs, and be Stormtroopers. Why bother investing money into things like shields and effective armor? Even their capital ships like the Star Destroyers were designed to rule by fear. Giant spaceship shows up at your planet that can rain down death and destruction from orbit if you get out of line. Later, small moon-sized spaceship shows up at your planet and can blow it up. Darth Vader shows up in his Super Star Destroyer. Large scale intimidation.

Meanwhile, the Rebels had neither numbers nor money. Their ships were decidedly more rugged and multipurpose. A lot of Hodgepodge of forces. The Millenium Falcon was just a freighter modified by Han Solo. Even the rebel fleet in Jedi has a pretty varied style of ships. The Rebels would use whatever they can get their hands on or steal.

Barring to many Clerks references, this is one thing I actually think Lucas did right, even if he didn't mean to.

Yeah. Me too.

I've read most of the EU books over the years, and the authors really do a great job of providing backstory for a galaxy with endless stories to be told. There are so many things you can do in the Star Wars galaxy that you can't in Star Trek because its entirely fictional.

I know they said "No EU", but the sheer amount of dollars, time, and backstory thats been created over the last 20 years by the EU would create a very interesting break in what's considered canon.

They may not directly or closely adapt any of those stories but I bet dollars to donuts that some of the EU is borrowed from here and there.

Would be stupid if they didn't. I mean talk about saving time and effort.

Exactly. Between all these movies they're talking about putting out, I'm sure some of the writer's/director's will have read at least some of those stories before. It'll be kind of hard to not have that influence their idea's.

Lucas had right of refusal on all EU stories. Had to follow cannon, couldn't kill off major characters without Lucas approval (Chewie gets killed in a later novel, which was a big controversy.) It would make sense at least to follow some of the source material.

Dont't see how CP3O makes an appearance when he was stuck with kid anakin being built. If C3PO was hanging out at the Princess Leia House after that with R2D2 I don't see how they would ever been in the same place (their families didn't see the type to run in the same circles).

Not saying it couldn't happen, but it shouldn't.

Won't this take place after the Empire already exists? Won't they be on Alderaan?
