yea I mean all he did with Houston was -

- 5 All Star appearances

- averaged 517 at bats since his rookie year (not counting his final season when he was traded midway thru the year)

- put up career highs in: at bats, runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI's, stolen bases, base on balls, batting average, slugging percentage, OPS

- and was basically the only Astro who hit the damn ball during the World Series. not to mention the numerous memorable home runs and grand slams in the playoffs where he bailed the Astros out (his grand slam in the NLDS against the Braves come to mind first)

Berkman was never my personal favorite, but he was a stud in Houston and is one of the greatest Astros of all time.

Below are his impressive averages during his 10 FULL seasons in Houston from 2000-2009 (not counting the 34 games he played in 1999 before his rookie season or the 2010 season when he was traded midway thru the year - although he was on pace to hit 26 HR and 100 RBI in 2010 while in Houston) -

10 Year Average (Complete Seasons 2000-2009)

.300 Batting Average
31 HR
102 RBI
155 Hits
36 Doubles

Don't feel like starting a new thread so this Texas Rangers thread will have to do.

Mike Napoli agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract with the Red Sox over a month ago, but the two sides are currently discussing an amended contract after an issue with his health (believed to be one of his hips) was revealed during his pre-signing physical. We now have some details on what the Red Sox have in mind.

Red Sox would like to shorten their deal with Napoli to one-year to make sure the hip will be ok for 2 or 3 seasons without a lot of DL time

In other words, Napoli would only get one guaranteed year. We have previously heard that the two sides were working through “hip language” in the contract, so it’s possible that the Red Sox could include a vesting option if he reaches a certain number of plate appearances or doesn’t land on the disabled list because of the hip. But it’s not clear whether that has been offered.

According to Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington wouldn’t get into any specifics on the negotiations when asked tonight, but was optimistic that a resolution will come “hopefully soon.” Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported this morning that the Red Sox have inquired about the Nationals’ Michael Morse as a potential fallback if a deal with Napoli can’t be reached.

Too expensive for them.
