question- did Ron Brooks stick in the NFL after coming out last year? I don't think there's a lot of physical difference between the 2, and Mathieu has way more knack for the ball.

Brooks runs like a 4.3. Mathieu is a mid 4.5 guy. And shorter.

Not in the first three rounds. But it wouldn't surprise me if he was taken in the mid 4th round.

Ron Brooks was the fastest player on the team last year. 4.3 guy.
ETA:
And Ron Brooks was jacked. Strong and fast man right there. And he is doing very well in the pros for a rookie with not much expected of him.

I don't think he'll be drafted but someone will take a shot on him because he's a fantastic football player in a lot of different facets. Not so much a cover guy but I think you put him as a rover and let him roam around and use his great instincts, like the Steelers do with Polamalu or the Ravens do with Ed Reed. Obviously it'd take a lot for him to ever play to that level but I'm talking about similar usage of the player.
His big problem at the next level will be his size. He's very small. But he'll stick on special teams if nothing else. I think there's not really a defined position for a guy like him.

I don't know about speed, but he's the same size as Antoine Winfield. Can't you see him making plays like these? He's the best blitzing corner I've ever seen in college football, so I'm sure a few aggressive DCs are looking at him.

I hope the Vikings would gamble a third round pick on him. I think he goes somewhere in that round or maybe the fourth.
I like him for his abilities as a punt returner and his penchant for big plays. Him and Harrison Smith could make some exciting plays and create turnovers.
He would probably also get to start in Minnesota. Outside of Winfield, the Vikings do not have a second corner since god know when.

The one thing I took away from that evaluation was that Mathieu makes plays despite poor technique. The only way that is possible is if he has some type of extraordinary skills that overcome the poor technique. Those skils are what will get Mathieu drafted by some team. He can improve on his techniques with coaching and a willingness to work.
I think part of his problem is the way he was used at LSU. His ability to disrupt plays was given so unique that he was used more for his ability to disrupt plays than his play in traditional pass coverage. So I don't think learnig fundamentals and proper techniques were as high a priority for the LSU coaching staff as they could have been. In the NFL Mathieu will have to learn that covering a receiver so that the QB looks elsewhere valued higher than loose coverage with the occasional interception.
I think he will go into NFL training camp with a chip on his shoulder and prove to be a late round steal in the draft.

Every team in the nfl has a cb his size just about.... I don't think it's that rare to be a 5''9" cb

He'd have made a great boxer a generation ago. We saw him cause a ton of fumbles in college. how that translates to the NFL remains to be seen.
Re the Brooks comparison- I thought they were closer in physical appearance. They did sorta look the same on the field. My bad on the speed differential

is he really 5'9 thou? If he is then yeah I agree there's plenty of players that size. I love his playmaking ability but he will have trouble covering NFL WR's. His coverage skills aren't very good but I do think he gets drafted somewhere in the 5th or 6th round.
