So I finally saw it (on TNT). Yes, it's Nolan's best film and I finally buy his hype. The ambition he used to create all those universes and special effects (largely without CGI) is just unreal. Most especially the zero gravity part. This movie proves CGI is a crutch for lazy, dumb directors.

TDK and TDKR suffer from too much plot and detail thrown together. The films end up rushed and haphazard. Inception gets close to that but doesn't go over the edge.

My only gripe, if you can call it that, is with the zero gravity part. If JGL is maneuvering in the rolling hallway, wouldn't the rest of the crew be bouncing around in the room beside him? Wouldn't that function as a kick, or even kill them?

And a question: Fischer is shot at the vault and dies, going to Limbo. So Cobb and Ariadne go after him. Are they in Cobb's dream or all in Limbo together? ie, Does Limbo serve as the absolute bottom and everyone who goes there goes to the same universe or their own? Looks to me they all go together.

And FWIW, the top falls over. He's in the real world. Deal with it.

Hard to watch a movie like that with commercials for the first time.

It's not so much that it falls over as it is that it started to wobble; which never happened in the dreams. So I agree he's IRL

FWIW it doesn't fall over, but it doesn't necessarily keep spinning. it's meant to be ambiguous.

Nolan has said that the important part isn't whether or not it falls over but that Cobb ignores it and decides to accept what what's in front of him.

The Prestige is really good, but I've seen Memento 15-20 times and still catch new shite almost every time.

To the gripe part. The kick needed to be bigger to wake them because they were so deep into the dream within the dream. When you're in zero gravity you don't drop or fall, you just float.

As far as the top falling goes, I think it did because he mentions the only time he wants to see his children's faces is when he knows without a doubt he is not dreaming. Throughout the movie they show the kids but never the faces until he is finally at home not in te dream

This. Inception and Memento were fantastic, but The Prestige is probably in my top 5 of all time.

I like thinking everything is a dream after Saito interrupts Leo when he is testing the top.

A totem is used so you know if you're in someone else's dream as only you know how your totem functions in real life.

Since Cobb knows how the totem works in real life and in dream space, if he is dreaming he could make the top fall in dream world to convince himself that he's in real life.

tl;dr the top spinning or falling down doesn't matter.
