Calm down people, a little context to the raise situation

tl,dr: Miles is actually getting a raise for last season, not because of Arky
I can understand how some of you can be pissed looking at today's developments in the context of the last week or so, but take a step back off the ledge for a second.
The most important thing to realize is that, despite the today's battle cry, Les did NOT just get a raise last year.
This was in the press release, and I looked into it. The extension that Les signed at the beginning of the 2011 season didn't give him any extra base salary, just a three year extension, more post-season incentives, and "stronger job protections."

Immediately following that, Les went 13-1 to win the SEC, took numerous Coach of the Year Awards, sat with a Heisman finalist in New York, and had people asking if that year's LSU team was the GOAT. He came up short in New Orleans. Rather than see a huge 2008-esque dropoff, the team played hard all season and got to 10 wins, and another top five recruiting class set to sign in January. The future looks really bright to me.
This was not thrown together in the last three days in response to Arky, or a resulting money grab by Miles. Coaches renegotiate when they have a good season. Saban did the same thing, and justifiably so, when he wasn't due for a new contract to the tune of $5.5M base. I know haters are gonna hate, but at least get the facts right.

He should have demanded a new contract on 1/10...oh wait

He prettymuch did, do you think he's gonna get the $5.5M Saban is making? He could have easily asked and gotten it if he'd beaten Saban twice in a season and brought home the ball. Instead he'll probably be closer to Stoops's level at $4M which seems fair to me.

quote:Hey, you know what? Maybe he should have. That was his second appearance in the BCS title game in a 4 year stretch. There's only one other SEC coach currently employed in conference who's done what he's done.

Tell me this- do you honestly think LSU can out-recruit, say, Notre Dame? Do you think our path to the BCS title game is easier than their's? Do you think Brian Kelly has earned some serious leverage to addess his own contract this season, regardless of the outcome of this year's BCS game? Because, in my opinion, I think Kelly has done enough to merit it. And he's not yet near Miles' level of success.

That's the only point I'm trying to make, and it will probably be a serious upgrade, so it will take a long time to hammer out. The result could be Kelly getting a raise following next year's 9-3 season.

LSU was played and and Arkansas was used plain and simple. I have zero problem with it.
