I'm looking to get a range finder for Christmas. I will use it for golf and hunting. I don't need top of the line but I want a good one.

Any thoughts and opinions welcome.

I have a Nikon Riflehunter 550. It works is compact and I played with it today in the stand.

Did you know the the farthest shot I have in this stand is 42.2 yards?

I just got the Leupold 1000. I like it and ranged a deer at 400 no problem. I have ranged cows at 500+. Remember that a 1000 yard range fomder will range animals at 600 yards. The Leupold is waterproof as well. That was important to me. Think I paid 350.

I have the Nikon 550 as well(Prostaff I think).I use it all the time when in the woods and its still on the original batteries from 2010.I think my wife paid 179 for it.Its a nice and practical unit.

bodean,
I've had a Nikon Monoarch 1200 for about 2 years. I like it and have found it very useful. I was able to save some money buying a factory refurbished model from Natchez Shooter's Supply. Still using the original batteries.

I went with the Leupold 750 because my CDS turrets max out at 700yds.
