They said on SC just now that the yankees will be on the road to take on winner of Rangers-Orioles playoff game. I thought division winners were home to start off series against WC team. What am I missing?

the fact that teams with better records are going on the road first now.

2 first games in BAL/TEX, Next 3 games ( 2 IF necessary) in NY.
New format.
New format.

It's only for this year.

if its only for this year whats the point?
its kind of ruins the homefield advantage IMO.
and travel is a weak arse excuse with how much money these teams make

The second wild card was added too late. The schedule comes out each year in September and it would have changed the travel days needed, etc. so with the less amount of days available they had to make use with the postseason schedule they had for this year and make adjustments for next season.

holy hell, then they should have just waited until next year to add the second WC.

It's been 2-3 format before, and the playoffs went just fine. There's actually a lot of pressure on the team with the first two games at home to win them both, or else at the very best they'll probably have to play a winner-take-all Game 5 on the road.
I know people will say that there's that same pressure on that team to win Games 3 and 4 under the 2-2-1 format, but in that case it's usually against the other team's 3rd and 4th starter. For the wildcard winner this year, under the 2-3 format, they'll have to win both games against the 1st and 2nd starter, while their own ace probably isn't available because he likely pitched the wildcard playoff.
I'm not saying I don't like 2-2-1 better, but it's all just something to think about.
And Major League Baseball has screwed things up much worse before in the LDS. Who remembers the awful format from 1995-1997? If you don't, look it up.

Clearly still very much in tact
Better team gets home field advantage of playing 3 games at home vs 2
