Interesting interview with Frank Wilson on LSU taking advantage of its national exposure:

ETA: It's an Insider, paywall story.

Sorry. I've been an ESPN insider member (with the mag subscription) for many years and didn't notice this was in the paywall.
But yes, it is behind the paywall.

A couple of quotes:
"The success we had being 13-1, and then having an opportunity to compete in the national championship game … has created an energy across the country that has allowed us to be in the living rooms of prospects all over the United States," Wilson said.
"When we sent coaches out this past spring, we would come back to our staff meetings, and the buzz to Coach [Les] Miles and our staff was that … there are kids all over the country who have 'Geaux Tigers' T-shirts, who chant our fight song … It's a testament to the progress our program has made and continues to make."
Just speaks to how they're in the mix for guys like Gilmore, Nkemdiche, Rettig, Pocic, etc. They seem to be getting more mileage outside their hot spots.

Somebody has to do it so I guess I can step in...

"Certainly we love our kids in the state of Louisiana, as well as in the South," Wilson said. "But when we can go nationally and supplement and pick up recruits we feel can contribute -- that's something we're excited about."

quote:
"We want the best player, and we're going to go from Louisiana and work our way out," Wilson said. "It doesn't matter. We've recruited and signed guys from all over the country -- guys like Brad Wing and those guys that come from Australia. Whether it's Australia, Canada, Los Angeles, California, Chicago, Detroit ... If they're the best at the position, we want them. And we want them to be a part of what we're doing."
