I may get a chance to go to the Newcastle-Man City match next month and I was just curious what kind of things I should be aware of that makes the experience different from say an LSU football game.

Like Krystals, don't pass out at pubs.

Make sure you are not sitting with the away fans. Find out what pubs the barcodes(NUFC)go to. Learn some barcode songs. Buy a shirt,go to the bar, then the match and have fun.

If you aren't a fan of either team, place a few bets so you have something to root for. You could probably get 5 to 1 or something like that for a Newcastle win and Cisse scoring 1st.

If it's at the stadium formerly known as St. James' Park, walk across the street to the Strawberry Pub, and enjoy the ambiance. It's one of the coolest pubs that I've been too, lots of NUFC memorabilia on the walls etc.

There's also a really cool football bookstore near Chinatown, not to far from the stadium, that's worth checking out.
