Paying college football players and the money I pay

This may very well be an emotional reaction to the current events with JJ and Shep but here is how I feel today.
During the "pay the players" discussion I was always pro player. Until yesterday I never wanted to add up the cost for my family and I to attend LSU football games. I willingly pay those cost and will continue to do so until I am physically unable to. Besides, putting a monetary value on having the LSU experience cheapens it for me.
All that being said, yesterday was the first time that I have connected the money I pay for the entertainment/competitive value of LSU football only to potentially have that value lessened by suspension of players. I hate it when key players are hurt and can't play, but that is the nature of the game. Injuries do make you question "what if". However, when players use poor judgement which results in them not being on the playing field we should all feel cheated. I know everyone is replacable, but I'd rather have a full arsenal.

I agree, but Jefferson hasn't exactly been a Godsend.
Depending on what unfolds, I'm excited about the possibilities of a Lee/Mett combo

When I was young like you I thought the same way. This is how I expect a lot of the Ranters in their 20s will react.

I've got news for you. Players getting suspended is ALSO in the nature of the game. We're talking about 18-23 year old guys who have frequently had their heads fooked from too much star-treatment at too young of an age to handle.
I'm not implying that this is the case with the Jefferson situation, but if occasionally a kid goes all "Perrilloux" and screws up bigtime, you really can't be all that surprised.
I'm surprised it doesn't happen a lot more than it does... but I guess that's what "booster hush money" is for.
Sucks, yeah, but that's life and college football.

Paying college football players and the money I pay
Ultimately whenever some black-eye incident in college athletics occurs you have folks come out of the woodwork with this "time to pay the players" BS. Man they can link this to anything.
I heard a guy on Mike an Mike yesterday blaming the Miami scandal on the NCAA for not paying players.
"They are making billions of dollars off these kids". Keep hearing that. What they never say is that they are spending billions on these kids too and many more football programs lose money than make money. They never seem to understand that.
