Sometimes to not be a distraction the their current program if the season hasnt ended. As in Mett's case.
Sometimes so the coach can make the fanbase have something to crow about when the recruit is announced at the last minute. As in PP's case.
Sometimes to not scare away future recruits that are on the fence until the coach can sit down with them and explain the current situation.
Sometimes to just be classless douchebags as in the case of Janzen Jackson.
What ya got?

Yeah what Cadello said about being a distraction. Especially when you're the quarterback vying for a title you want to give off the impression that you're only focused on winning, not where you're off to next.

Sometimes guys that are committed to out of state schools, especially in smaller states will go silent to avoid taken heat for their commitment.
Also, some coaches want their commits to stay silent to avoid other programs from finding out ie Armand Williams last year.

Also IMO the attention. If a high 4*-5* waits till NSD with little clue to his intentions you can bet ESPN or local news will give him a press conference.
I can only imagine the buzz Shep would have gotten by staying silent and waiting till NSD before announcing LSU.
