I was talking with my Father-n-law after the game yesterday, and we were trying to imagine how good this team would have been this year with a top tier QB (and if the receivers catch the damn ball). I realize the record could only be improved by one game, but I believe LSU would have routed every opponent this year.

I brought up that in my opinion, if Zach Mettenberger shows up in January, that he starts from the first day of summer, and LSU is one of the top offenses in the league next year. He said that Jefferson is Miles' boy, and there is no way in hell that Jefferson comes out of the lineup regardless of how good Mettenberger is.

Also, I would like to see Crowton let go at the end of the season, but I doubt he will be, and I'm not so sure that he wouldn't return to wizard status with a better QB, but the last two years have been inexcusable in my opinion.

Thoughts?

do you really think a true freshman would "rout" everybody in the SEC?

I think if metternberger is exceptional, Jefferson plays some. If he is average, we have next year what we have this year.

I said after a game or two this year we'd be the best in the land with a solid QB. Too bad Zach Lee bolted us tis year - Garrett, too.

next year is a llloooonnnngggg time away. if JJ can move forward and keep his game or improve it, i doubt if a new guy can beat him out. and saying JJ is miles boy completely discounts miles. from what i've seen and hear about practices, jj does give us the best chance to win. yes, he regressed this year, but that is not necessarily a permanent condition.

I think Mett can wait a year and learn something first before he get's thrown to the dogs, ala Jarrett Lee, don't you?

I also think that the Bama game may actually wake GC up to the fact that he needs to stop trying to fit the game plan to what he thinks the players may or may not be capable of and call the freakin game to win it! I think that was the whole difference in this game; the fact that out of necessity, Crowton, Coach Miles, or both, finally said, "What the hell, call it, we can't just keep running into the trees, let's try running around them for a change."

Mett would be far from a true Frosh like Lee was being thrown to the Wolves

Actually, No. I said if LSU had a "Top Tier" QB that they would have routed everyone in the league. Reread it, I wasn't referring to ZM in that sentence, just generalizing.

By the way, this topic doesn't diminish the game that was played yesterday. I thought Jefferson, Miles, and many others played a fantastic game. This is only a look ahead.

I don't want to put a damper on the win, but I still believe we have the right CALIBER of players on offense, and Crowton is a good play caller, as is Coach Miles, but what is lacking is the ability of the coaching staff in general to put it all together. The only hope I have is that they learned a lesson in "just let 'er rip" yesterday, and will trust the talent they have to do what they did yesterday.

You may be right. We should know by the end of the year. The painful thing is that this is why Miles' record is so great after a loss. He (and Crowton) refuse to adjust and make changes as long as they are winning, even though it is obvious that we are headed for problems. Then, we lose, and they come out gangbusters. Oh well, better late than never I guess.
