Steve E is viewed positively thru purple and gold glasses. Super nice guy. Loves LSU and is very loyal. People just like Steve and deservedly so.

Objectively as an OC he is at best average. Canada and Peetz were abysmal as LSU OCs. Cam Cameron may have been even worse. Was Steve E better than those 3? Of course.
Was he anywhere near Joe Brady's creativity / feel for calling plays? Not even close. Is Joe Brady upper tier in college? Absolutely. But, there are at least 20 OCs in college football today that are way better than Steve E every was. Giving Joe Brady credit doesn't diminish Steve E. Joe Brady is doing just fine as an OC in the NFL without Slinger in the booth.

Oh, I beg to differ 100%. Brady is floundering and looks similar to Pootz at times with his asinine calls. Neither of them have any idea how to adjust to what the D is doing, so if they get knocked off the gameplan, then it is curtains.

Brady's inadequacies were shielded by E's experience. They both complemented each other. Brady will not be in Carolina next year and may not get another OC shot until he proves himself again.

Lots of folks are staying Max regressed or hasn’t developed pocket presence. IMO, Max has been asked to play within 2 separate systems. One is the spread and the other is max protect, play action. The QB is asked to perform completely different tasks within those offensive concepts. When we run 6/7 man protection , the routes take longer to develop and defensive usually send 5-6. The hot read isn’t really there in this scenario bc it’s either taken away or doesn’t exist bc if the nature of the route concept. 75 —80 percent of the sacks and hurries have come when we call a 6-7 man protection. Of anything , Max hasn’t figured out when to throw the ball away when pressured during a 6/7 man protection play.

Compare that to 5 man protection when 5 are in the route. The reads and checks are easier. Much more identifiable. More importantly, everything is quicker for the QB. The read and decision making are fast, which is why Max excels. He has little experience sitting back and patiently waiting for a route to break open while he hopes that this protection doesn’t break down.
