I would bet that this is *exactly* what happened.

Woodward let the rumors go wild about Riley, which risks undermining his ultimate hire. Those rumors were starting to drift into his competence and the competence of the search.

If the 24/7 reports of some of the BOS meeting today is true, it may have been a bit of a "you don't have to tell anyone who, but calm people down, please" conversation.

I was actually surprised the Riley rumors went unchecked for so long, unless Woodward was totally blindsided (which seems unlikely from piecing stuff together).

But LF is in a G5 title game with playoff ramifications. That counts this time around.

Plus, Houston has a legit shot at beating Cincy.

At least some recruits seemed to think it was Lincoln Riley.

I could go on and on. It started as a message board rumor, but it took off.

bullshite. It may be exaggeration, but any typical G5 championship game won’t stop a coach from announcing he’s leaving beforehand and having a formal press conference. That’s because they DO NOT MATTER in the grand scheme of college football. They are important for players and fans, but no coach will hold off on an announcement because of those games.

Conversely, please point out any P5 coaches who have been announced as taking other jobs before a championship game. It leaked about Miles to Michigan years ago, but A- he shut that shite down as we all remember, and B- it was just a leak. It wouldn’t have been announced until later if it had gone forward.

P5 championship games have much wider implications and the guys we would be targeting all have some level of playoff hopes riding on those games. Normally the AAC CG wouldn’t matter for these purposes, but this year is an exception since Cincy currently holds a playoff ranking.

Wow. Listening to the interview has me feeling a little bit differently. It could all be bullshite but this is a legit TAF guy. When he said “Wednesday” it wasn’t a one-off. He circled back to Wednesday at least two more times and said “maybe sooner.”

I don’t know if he has a weekly spot on this show or whatever but I can’t imagine someone with TAF going out there and saying three+ times that it’ll be Wednesday or sooner.

The timeline still troubles me as it would (probably) eliminate aranda and fick. Could it be Petersen or rhule or Irvin? Or will it be stoops or bob?

Or will it not be Wednesday at all and this was just to buy time?
