The truth of this situation is simple. Riley was always going to be a very difficult pull. Even if you thought it was him, you knew it was going to be one of the biggest coaching hires ever made in the sport. That alone should have kept most expectations in check.

Secondly, the narrative from insiders here should always be taken with a grain of salt. I admit, I got excited as well. But I read Shea’s notes yesterday prior to the game, and he was throwing some serious water on the Riley rumors. This was before the end of Bedlam, before we beat A&M. 247 insiders may not know who we’re hiring atm, but they would’ve known if it was imminent or a done deal.

To put it frankly, when you read the update from today, this all reads as if it is right in line with this admins plan. No one seems to know what that plan exactly is, but that is likely better than going the Alleva route. I highly doubt that Scott is grabbing himself trying to pin down a good figure for Stoops or BoB.

We’re in the same place we were last week, except now we know that Riley isn’t in the fold. Which we already knew was an extreme long shot. Everyone just needs to breathe around here.
