If you fire your weapon you fire to eliminate the threat not to disarm the threat.
Now personally I think he was firing to eliminate the threat but like what happens in a lot of stressful cases he shot what he was focused on the gun hand.

He didn’t aim for his bicep and wasn’t aiming to disarm him. He was shooting him in self defense while lying on the ground. He was trying to aim center of mass.
Real life isn’t like the movies, you never shoot to maim or disarm, if you are pulling the trigger, you shoot to kill. Period.
