This sounds like a dude shooting his shot and then realizing he read the situation wrong and is a complete idiot.
She probably has a reputation of banging her way to the top and the guy though he had a chance. Just turns out she wasn't powerful enough.

My guess is that he had the wrong equipment given her close relationship with Hillary.
