Makes me wonder how many clueless people got into house flipping after watching some of those shows and seeing the hosts making $50K+ on a flip in that hour long show.

First off, to make money doing that you have know what the hell you are doing, buy in the right area, be in the right market, buy low, have good contractor crews and know how to show the houses for their best look.

I've got a friend who got into flipping houses in N.O. not long after Katrina when he could buy low, fix them up and sell for a nice profit. He no longer is doing business in New Orleans with the market so high that flipping doesn't make much sense right now.

He's actually doing a lot of business in St. Bernard working with Parish officials and getting vacant lots to build houses on. That brings in more residents, adds to their tax base and other parts of their economy.

Just put some shiplap up and resell for 100k above purchase.

Something I have noticed. The spec home flips from reputable contractors seems to have changed a little. Have noticed contractors buying potential homes and sitting on them with a package plan to renovate, once a buyer is found.
