But all joking aside, everyone should be thankful that things have went the way they have

It will be the quickest way to getting our program back on track

Russ Calloway from analyst to OC would be a failure. And if Orgeron told Peetz he had to take Calloway as PGC because he promised it to him….we would be roasting Orgeron for that too.

Not saying Calloway didn’t deserve a better role but hiring a new OC, you have to expect he’s going to bring his own guys like Mangas. Orgeron still sucks but this is a little bit of a reach.

Nah, all assistants work for the HC. Coordinators don’t get to bring in “their guys” unless there is a position opening that the HC feels would be best replaced by the guy the coordinator recommends. This has always been a myth on here—how much leverage coordinators have regarding the rest off the staff. Offensive assistants work for Orgeron. Defensive assistants work for Orgeron. They work WITH their respective coordinators.

That said, regarding this particular topic, I had been convinced Calloway was going to be a stud sooner rather than later. Of course, I was also convinced Mickey Tettleton’s kid was too, so I don’t know shite. But even if Calloway would have been a better hire than Peetz, O’s real frick up was the promise to Russ, not the not hiring him. You can only make promises (even if you mean them at the time) you don’t keep once or twice (if that) and keep your reputation. Seems like O is well into double figures of broken promises/lies.

Disagree. I think Callaway could have handled OC or at least PGC way better than Peetz. He had 5 successful years as OC/QB/WR coaching experience and coached QB Devlin Hodges (won Walter Payton Award 2018). He also coached back to back championships at Alabama for Saban on the defensive side of the ball with Kirby. He has proven he can call plays. Peetz doesn’t have a record of doing anything worth mentioning. You want an OC or play caller, then at least hire one with an inkling of experience. Peetz isn’t even in the same caliber as Callaway. Max is losing confidence with Peetz.

I know a guy on Saban’s staff now that had such a promise that never came to fruition

It happens

My point is that in this case it may have helped LSU in the long run

Does Calloway have any area ties? Or once he left, was that bridge burned forever?

That begins to explain a lot. I 100% believe that.

Im sure he didn’t burn any bridges. Doesn’t sound like his style but I heard and read he’s pretty happy working for Joe Judge with NYG and vice versa. He loved BR and LSU but I doubt he would even consider coming back under this staff.

My point is Orgeron clearly was trying to recreate the magic of 2019. If he hired a guy who never called plays before in Joe Brady and it was a homerun, I’m sure he thought it would work out with Peetz based on Joe Brady’s recommendation. When it was time to replace Aranda, he hired a coach who had been coaching and calling defenses for over a decade and that experience didnt mean two shits because they all failed at installing it.

It’s easy to say Calloway would have been better now seeing how horrible Peetz has done. I just think it’s a reach to expect Orgeron to bet on Calloway over Joe Brady’s recommendation.
